The Epstein “Phase 1” Files Officially Declassified and “Partially” Released with NYC FBI Still Withholding Critical Documents

In the White House on Thursday, prominent conservative pundits were spotted with binders marked "The Epstein Files" just after Attorney General Pam Bondi promised to make Jeffrey Epstein records public. The binders' contents are still unknown, and the Justice Department has not made any information about them publicly available.

At the White House, conservative figures such as Liz Wheeler, Chaya Raichik, Rogan O'Handley (also known as DC Draino), and Jack Posobiec were seen holding binders labeled The Epstein Files: Phase 1. Although the binders were tagged as "declassified," it is still unclear whether the material therein was ever classified.

The impending document release will contain Epstein's flight records and "a lot of names," AG Pam Bondi told Fox News on Wednesday. However, it is unclear if further information would be made public beyond what is now known. The Justice Department has not verified the contents of the binders or whether they include any information from Bondi's promised release. It is unclear if the documents were ever formally classified, even though they were marked as "declassified.”

On Fox News Wednesday, Bondi said that a list of names and Epstein's travel logs would be among the soon-to-be-released papers. Nevertheless, the extent to which the current release contains previously undisclosed information remains uncertain, considering the years of legal disputes and prior disclosures. Many of the documents, such as victim interviews and police reports, had previously been made public before a court opened papers related to a case brought by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre in early 2024.

For more than ten years, Epstein, a convicted sex offender, preyed on girls as young as fourteen years old. He passed away in 2019 while awaiting trial in a Manhattan jail cell. His ties to influential people have maintained the case's profile in the eyes of the public, including politicians, corporate moguls, and even monarchies. A 20-year prison term was handed down to his longtime partner, Ghislaine Maxwell, in 2021 for her part in enabling his crimes.

Speculation on the nature of the upcoming document release and if new disclosures will surface has been heightened by the high-profile sighting of conservative commentators carrying binders bearing the title The Epstein Files.

Social media users have shared a purported letter from Attorney General Pam Bondi to FBI Director Kash Patel, alleging that FBI New York is "withholding critical Epstein documents." The FBI Field Office in New York has "thousands of documents" but has not "disclosed the existence of these files," according to a letter dated February 27. This letter was made public just hours after Pam Bondi declared that further documents pertaining to convicted sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein would be made public by the U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday.

"The American people are entitled to know the precise identity of those involved in this network. As you are aware, Jeffrey Epstein established a horrific worldwide sex trafficking network that harmed innumerable women irreparably over a long period of time," said Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.

Bondi stated that she had asked for the entire Epstein case file prior to Patel being officially named FBI director and had been given roughly 200 pages of documents, which was significantly less than the amount of pages made public in a civil case involving Ghislaine Maxwell, the trafficker's ex-lover and convicted accomplice, last year.

Bondi stated, "The FBI repeatedly assured me that we had received the full set of documents, but I kept questioning whether this was the full set of documents responsive to my request." "I found out from a source late yesterday that the FBI Field Office in New York had thousands of pages of documents pertaining to Epstein's investigation and indictment." According to Bondi, the FBI has never revealed the existence of such files and has insisted on receiving them by Friday morning.

The full and complete Epstein files, including any records, papers, audio and video recordings, and materials pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein and his customers, regardless of how such information was obtained, will be delivered to Bondi's office by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, February 28. "My or your access will not be restricted or withheld in any way."
