The Associated Press (AP) Finally Meets Karma for Its Left-Leaning Woke Propaganda Shift: BLOCKED from Covering Oval Office Events
By The Blog Source
When the Associated Press (AP) refused to accept the Gulf of Mexico's renaming as the "Gulf of America," they were prohibited from covering an event at the Oval Office. The White House justified the action as enforcing adherence to official U.S. policy, while the AP characterized it as an assault on journalistic freedom.
The White House reporter for the Associated Press was not allowed to attend a press conference with President Donald Trump and King Abdullah II of Jordan in the Oval Office. In accordance with Trump's executive order, the White House pointed to AP's unwillingness to refer to the Gulf of Mexico solely as the "Gulf of America." Although the new name has already been adopted by Google and Apple Maps, AP Executive Editor Tara Copp referred to the decision as a breach of press freedom.
Tuesday saw a dramatic outburst from the Associated Press following a White House decision to exclude a writer from covering a meeting between Trump and King Abdullah II of Jordan. The decision was based on the reporter's stated reluctance to completely support the administration's renaming of the Gulf of Mexico.
The White House argued that the name "Gulf of America" more accurately represents American sovereignty and historical importance; therefore, they decided to change it via executive order earlier this year. Even though both Google Maps and Apple Maps have changed their identities to reflect the new branding, the Associated Press has stated that it will continue to use both names in its reporting. This middle ground was evidently not enough for the White House.
The exclusion, according to AP Executive Editor Tara Copp, who went to X (formerly Twitter), was the government's attempt to stifle independent media. Copp was outraged by the decision. "The Associated Press has acknowledged President Trump's request to rename the international body of water on our southern shore from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America," Copp wrote, explaining why the Oval Office was refused access to the @AP White House reporter today.
The Associated Press reiterated in a formal statement that the action taken by the White House constitutes a flagrant disregard for the First Amendment. "Restricting our ability to visit the Oval Office due to the speech content of AP not only breaks the First Amendment, but it also significantly limits the public's access to independent reporting," the statement quoted.
But previous editorial adjustments by the AP contradict its current stance. During the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020, for example, the news organization capitalized "Black" but left "white" lowercase in order to conform to leftist ideologies. Some say the AP's biased outrage is more political than based on journalistic values since it follows progressive language mandates on immigration and gender identity.
According to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the White House has maintained its position and expects media outlets to report on government topics in accordance with official U.S. policy. The government expects media organizations granted access to the White House to accept the Gulf of America as it is currently recognized under U.S. law, according to Leavitt's statement.
The absence of the AP at the gathering brings up larger concerns regarding the media's function in either supporting or challenging official narratives. In the eyes of some, the White House is trying to impose editorial conformity; in the eyes of others, it is a necessary response to the press corps's long-standing resistance to President Trump's attempts to restore national pride.
