President Trump Visits the North Carolina Victims of Helene Forgotten by the Biden Administration

On Friday, President Donald Trump began his second term by traveling to North Carolina, which was severely affected by Hurricane Helene in September. He will subsequently fly to California, where wildfires persist in the southern region of the state, to evaluate the extent of the damage caused by the disasters.
"We are traveling to North Carolina." The manner in which that has been permitted to persist is truly appalling. Additionally, we shall rectify the situation. "I should have taken action months ago following the catastrophe that occurred nearly four months ago," Trump stated to reporters upon departing the White House. "North Carolina has been subjected to appalling treatment," President Trump said to reporters before entering Air Force One along with First Lady Melania Trump.
President Trump is making his second trip to Western North Carolina since Helene struck in September, but this is his first trip to the state since the beginning of his second administration. In addition to destroying infrastructure, including highways, electrical lines, and water treatment plants, the storm claimed over 100 lives.
As he landed in North Carolina to tour the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, President Trump stated that he was considering "the whole notion of FEMA," the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which he has attacked, and that he would want to see states "take care of disasters."
In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, he expressed comparable sentiments. Trump was a vocal critic of FEMA during his campaign, reiterating that the agency had denied aid to North Carolinians who displayed Trump signs on their property.
After landing close to Asheville, North Carolina, Trump told reporters that allowing states to handle disaster response would be quicker. Trump told reporters, "Let the state handle the hurricanes, tornadoes, and everything else that occurs."
President Trump told reporters that he thinks the response to Hurricane Helene was "terrible" and that the damage has "been allowed to fester." He continued, "We will get it corrected. It should have been completed months ago.
Trump expressed his willingness to provide additional financial assistance to North Carolina, but he did not specify a specific amount. The president requested that Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley, the leader of the North Carolina GOP, collaborate with the state's congressional delegation and Governor Josh Stein to address the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
