President Trump to Revoke Parole Programs for Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan Migrants

In a dramatic change in immigration policy, the Trump administration is terminating parole programs for more than 500,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Affected migrants have until April 24 to go.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is terminating Biden-era parole programs that let immigrants from the four nations enter and work in the United States. The administration claims that under Biden, the programs abused the system by letting in more than 1.5 million people.

The action is consistent with President Trump's reversal of Biden's border policies and his larger assault on illegal immigration.

With the announcement that more than 500,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela will no longer have legal status, the Trump administration has taken a firm move to stop what it claims is the Biden administration's misuse of immigration laws. The administration is ending "categorical parole programs,” which formerly permitted some migrants to reside and work in the United States, according to a formal announcement made by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

These initiatives allowed citizens of the designated nations and their immediate family members to apply online for temporary legal status, which required financial sponsorship and background checks. But according to DHS, all migrants who are presently enrolled in these programs have to depart by April 24, which is 30 days after the notice was formally published in the Federal Register.

The announcement comes after DHS hinted at the phase-out of these initiatives in a statement earlier this year. By permitting more than 1.5 million migrants to enter the nation, the Biden administration "abused the humanitarian parole program," the agency reaffirmed, a practice that Trump quickly dismantled after taking office.

This most recent ruling demonstrates Trump's ongoing attempts to strengthen border security and undo immigration programs from the Biden administration. Both immigration supporters and advocates for stricter US immigration laws are expected to react strongly to the action. As the administration intensifies its assault on illegal immigration to the United States, thousands of migrants now face uncertainty.
