In his speech to Congress on Tuesday night, President Donald Trump criticized Democrats for their unrelenting partisanship, encouraging them to put the nation above politics and denouncing their unwillingness to acknowledge America's accomplishments.
After disrupting Trump's speech, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was removed from the chamber.
Trump criticized Democrats for their failure to acknowledge even the most positive accomplishments for the United States. He urged Democrats to abandon their political grievances and collaborate in order to "restore America's greatness."
During his Tuesday night speech to a joint session of Congress, President Donald Trump bluntly criticized Democrats for their relentless partisanship and their failure to acknowledge the progress made in America under his leadership. His comments were made as Democratic legislators booed from their seats shortly after Rep. Al Green (D-TX) was dismissed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for interfering with the proceedings.
Trump noted that Democrats would not back even nonpartisan victories for the nation. "This is my fifth such speech to Congress, and once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud," he said.
Trump emphasized that Democrats would prefer to remain silent than recognize achievements that benefit all Americans. He declared, "These people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements if I find a cure for the most devastating disease—a disease that would wipe out entire nations—or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded."
After bemoaning the fact that this relationship is "very sad and just shouldn't be this way," he directly urged Democrats to set aside their politics. "So, Democrats, why don't you join us in celebrating so many wonderful victories for America on this one night?" When Trump inquired, the left half of the room continued to jeer. "Let's cooperate and genuinely restore America's greatness for the benefit of our country."
The incident highlighted the stark rift in Washington, where Democrats seem more concerned with fighting Trump at every opportunity than they are with finding real answers for the American people. Their response demonstrated that obstruction is still their top goal, despite a direct call for unity.
