MSNBC’s Joy Reid Gets the Ax as Network Ratings Tank

As part of a larger programming reorganization at the liberal network, MSNBC is discontinuing Joy Reid's show, The ReidOut. A new panel show with Symone Sanders-Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele, the former RNC Chair who is now hosting MSNBC, will take place at 7 p.m. ET.

In February 2025, The ReidOut averaged barely 973,000 viewers, a 28% decrease from the same period the previous year. The reorganization of MSNBC will go beyond Reid's program; former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is anticipated to be given more coverage. Although she will stay with MSNBC, Alex Wagner, who was previously pushed aside to make room for Rachel Maddow's enlarged role, is not anticipated to continue in her 9 p.m. ET hour.

According to Fox News Digital, as part of a significant reorganization under the network's new management, MSNBC is discontinuing The ReidOut. Throughout her career, Reid, a longstanding leftist analyst renowned for her anti-Trump comments, has seen dwindling viewership and controversy. The elimination of her show is just one of many anticipated changes; MSNBC executives are considering changes to all of the network's primetime, weekend, and daytime programming.

A new ensemble show with former Kamala Harris spokesperson Symone Sanders-Townsend, MSNBC contributor Alicia Menendez, and former RNC Chair Michael Steele will take Reid's place. In the meantime, Psaki's show is anticipated to get more airtime, demonstrating the network's dedication to enhancing her visibility.

Reid has been the subject of much criticism for an extended period, particularly due to her provocative statements regarding Trump and his supporters. She asserted that Black women had lost interest in "saving America" as a result of the overwhelming turnout of white women for Trump in the aftermath of the 2024 election. She has more recently compared Trump's immigration policies to those of Nazi Germany.

Reid, in a recent recording, broke down in tears over her firing from MSNBC. Yet, it’s safe to say that many Americans will not miss her conflicting presence from the mainstream media circus of anti-Trump talking heads.

President Trump did not hold back his feelings about MSNBC’s firing of Joy Reid as he took to “X” with the following posts:

Reid has been the subject of controversy on numerous occasions. In 2018, she was notoriously accused of blaming hackers for the resurfacing of discriminatory blog posts from her past. After initially asserting that the FBI was conducting an inquiry, she subsequently acknowledged that it was improbable that she had been compromised. However, she maintained that she did not recall penning the offensive remarks. MSNBC maintained her status as one of its most prominent liberal voices, despite the peculiar episode—until now.
