Breaking: Red Flag Gun Legislation Passes in House Party-line Vote
On Thursday, June 9th 2022, the House passed a bill which will seek “to keep guns away from individuals deemed a threat to themselves and others,” according to a breaking report from The Hill. It appears that the first step of rendering the American people defenseless against a tyrannical government has begun! We need look no further than the weaponization of the justice system against the Jan. 6 prisoners to conclude: Will this Red Flag Gun Legislation give Democrats the license to unjustly label conservatives “a threat to themselves and others”?
Dubbed the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order, the legislation passed in a 224-202 vote with two Republicans not even showing up to vote. According to The Hill report, “Five Republicans — Reps. Fred Upton (Mich.), Adam Kinzinger (Ill.), Anthony Gonzalez (Ohio), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.) and Chris Jacobs (N.Y.) — bucked the GOP in voting for the measure, and Democratic Rep. Jared Golden (Maine) broke from the party in opposing the bill.”
This bill should awaken the the senses of all Americans that we are now potentially at the precipice of being slow-walked into an infringement upon our gun rights! The red flag bill — introduced by Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Ga.) — would authorize family members and law enforcement officers to petition U.S. district courts to issue federal extreme protection orders that would temporarily prohibit individuals from purchasing or possessing firearms. Is it likely that this will deter criminals from obtaining illegal firearms?
The passage of the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order came just one day after the House cleared a sweeping gun package that called for raising the minimum age to purchase a semi-automatic weapon from 18 to 21 and banning civilian use of high-capacity weapons. Not surprisingly, both pieces of legislation were a response to last month’s mass shootings in Buffalo, N.Y. and Uvalde Texas; evil tragedies that lacked the presence of a good guy with a gun.
