BREAKING: 29 Pounds of Fentanyl Seized on I-10 by Border Agents!

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Indio Border Patrol officials apprehended a female driver who was in possession of 29 pounds of fentanyl.  When a white SUV passed them on Wednesday morning close to Golf Center Parkway, agents were on Interstate 10 and engaged their brakes.

According to CBP, after following the car and performing record checks, the agents halted the car. After coming to a stop by the side of the highway, the driver was questioned. She said she was a citizen of the United States, as were her two minor children.

Nevertheless, records revealed that the children were both citizens of the United States and that she was an unauthorized citizen present in the country.  The driver's conflicting responses were also noticed by CBP.  When a K-9 unit got to the scene, it asked to search the car. Agents noticed a sealed box with shelves in the back seat after the unit alerted them to it.

After handling the box, agents saw that it was heavier than it looked.  According to CBP, when the three black shelves in the box were opened, the agents saw that the paint was still wet and fresh on them. There were no pre-drilled holes or hardware in the box for the shelves.  When the driver was questioned about the shelves, she refused to allow anyone to open them, even though the agents informed her that they would provide her with a reimbursement form in the event that something broke.

Agents discovered a box wrapped in cellophane containing blue tablets bearing the M-30 symbol, according to CBP.  Fentanyl was detected in a sample that was obtained.  According to CBP, the pills weighed a total of 29 pounds, which is sufficient to completely destroy a metropolis home to 6.8 million people.  The vehicle and drugs were given to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Bureau for an investigation after the driver, an undocumented citizen, was taken into custody.  The two kids were given to their father, according to CBP as well.
