After finding President Trump in contempt for the tenth time, Judge Merchan threatens to put him in jail.
Justice Juan Merchan has found President Donald J. Trump in contempt for the tenth time for breaking a gag order pertaining to his ongoing criminal trial. Judge Merchan hinted that penalties are not harsh enough and once again threatened to put President Trump in jail.
For the most recent breach of the gag order, Trump was hit with a $1,000 penalty. Trump was previously fined $9,000 by Justice Merchan for nine prior order violations. Judge Merchan once again threatened to put Trump in jail if he spoke out against convicted perjurer Michael Cohen or other case participants, even though Cohen is allowed to publicly criticize President Trump on the internet.
Trump was accused of breaking the gag order four times, according to Manhattan district attorney's office prosecutors. The order also forbids attacks on witnesses, prosecutors, and other individuals. Justice Merchan came to the conclusion that only one of these occurrences was a violation, though.
