James Comey To Testify Before Senate Panel
Former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey will testify on Thursday, June 7, 2017 at 10:00am ET, before a senate intelligence committee to answer questions about Russia interference in the 2016 Presidential election.
Comey, who was relieved of his position as the leader of one of the ‘Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions’ last month has been in the center of a major controversy after reports emanated that he was pressured by President Donald Trump to halt a probe into an adviser’s links with the Russian government.
Yesterday, President Donald Trump rebuffed claims that he was trying to use his powers to stop the former FBI chief from testifying against him.
“I wish him luck,” President Trump said.
In a statement last month, Comey said he felt ‘mildly nauseous’ but had no regrets about the possibility that his actions might have affected the outcome of the last presidential election. According to North Carolina Republican and Senate intelligence committee chairman Richard Burr, Thursday’s testimony will be James Comey’s only public testimony on the whole saga. He said: “I know he accepted our invitation and he expressed that this would be the only public hearing he would hold.”
There are reports that the Senate Judiciary Committee has invited him for a testimony too and according to committee leaders Sens. Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein, they have not ruled out the possibility of Comey accepting the invitation.
Comey’s testimony is highly anticipated and it is sure to draw attentions and make Americans stay glued to their television and computer screens. James Comey is an appointee of the Barack Obama administration.
The 56-year-old served as the seventh FBI director from September 2013 to May 9th 2017. The former Deputy Attorney General of the United States has since been replaced by Andrew McCabe as FBI boss.
