Tiger Woods blames an “unexpected reaction” to prescription medicine for his DUI charge, which landed him in a Florida jail on Monday. A Jupiter Police spokeswoman, Kristin Rightler, said an arrest report is expected to be released on Tuesday.
Woods said in a press release statement Monday evening after his release, “I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”
Woods concluded, “I expect more from myself too”, as he apologized to his family, friends and fans.
This was the first time that Woods had run into trouble off the golf course since the early morning after Thanksgiving in 2009 when he ran his SUV into a tree and a fire hydrant outside his Windermere, Florida home. At the time, a police report showed that the Florida trooper who suspected Woods was driving under the influence sought a subpoena for a blood test result from the hospital, but prosecutors prevented the blood test results from being released on the grounds of insufficient information.
