BILL O’REILLY FIRED

Allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior has forced Fox News to part ways with Bill O’Reilly, bringing an end to his 21-year tenure with media outfit 21st Century Fox. The parent company said in a statement, “the company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Bill O’Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel.”
An internal memo revealed that the decision was made by Fox news after due consultations with outside counsel. The memo reads, “By ratings standards, Bill O’Reilly is one of the most accomplished TV personalities in the history of cable news. In fact, his success by any measure is indisputable. Fox News has demonstrated again and again the strength of its talent bench. We have full confidence that the network will continue to be a powerhouse in cable news”.
The memo was signed by the trio of Rupert Murdoch and his two sons. It has been reported that Tucker Carlson will take over the 8 p.m. ET timeslot.
This story resurfaced by the New York Times who reported on April 1 that Bill O’Reilly and Fox had settled five cases against him alleging sexual harassment. The report suggests that a total of $13 million was paid.
The 67-year-old O’Reilly left on vacation last week and he hasn’t commented on his status. He also met with Pope Francis earlier today in a VIP line at the Vatican.
O’Reilly recently signed a multi-year contract with Fox. O’Reilly was the host of ‘The O’Reilly Factor’, a political commentary program.
