Are Big-Box Stores in the US Going to Become the Next Wuhan Wet Market?
According to a recent Substack article by Karen Kingston, major grocery stores have the software and mechanisms in place to track and trace every item they sell, even tracking customer purchases of food that is "possibly tainted" with a virus.
October 22, 2024: The FDA, US Department of Agriculture (USDA), and CDC coordinated the recall of more than 10 million pounds of potentially listeria-contaminated ready-to-eat foods earlier this month. According to the USDA press release, the "possible" listeria infection has not caused any illnesses. "No verified reports of negative effects resulting from the use of these goods have been made."
Recalls are usually started when consumers notify a healthcare professional about food poisoning symptoms, which are subsequently entered into the CDC's PulseNet food digital surveillance program.
This recall is unusual because no one was ill, despite the fact that the FDA, USDA, and CDC have coordinated just over 230 food product recalls because of outbreaks since 2011. I cannot help but think of the persons who tested positive for COVID-19 without showing any symptoms and were placed under quarantine when the USDA found listeria in the food supply without any signs of sickness. Remember that the COVID-19 epidemic was first reported to have begun when people consumed tainted food from the Wuhan market.
