Europe Seeks President Trump’s Support to Broker Ukraine Peace Proposal

By The Blog Source

The United Kingdom, France, and Ukraine are currently developing a ceasefire proposal to conclude the Russia-Ukraine conflict with the intention of presenting it to President Donald Trump. The action is the result of a contentious Oval Office meeting that has caused a strain on U.S.-Ukraine relations.

The efforts to mediate a peace agreement in Ukraine are being spearheaded by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, with Italy also conveying interest. The strategy entails the establishment of a "coalition of the willing," European-led security guarantees, and a ceasefire to stabilize Ukraine in the aftermath of the conflict. The success of any peace agreement depends on European efforts since President Trump is still dubious about long-term U.S. security obligations.

European leaders have stepped up their efforts to put an end to the war in Ukraine after President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a heated debate in the Oval Office. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has emphasized the urgent need for a swift "coalition of the willing" to put an end to the brutal three-year battle, and the United Kingdom and France are spearheading the creation of a ceasefire plan.

The U.K., France, and Ukraine have agreed to start official talks on a peace plan, which they would then offer to Washington, Starmer stated in a Sunday interview with the BBC. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also expressed interest in participating, indicating a larger European attempt to promote a settlement.

However, there are significant barriers to Europe's diplomatic efforts. According to reports, the plan calls for European peacekeeping forces to be stationed in Ukraine, a move that Russia has categorically opposed. The concept was deemed "unacceptable" by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who accused European countries—especially France and the United Kingdom—of escalating the conflict rather than bringing it to a halt.

Starmer emphasized that the plan should include a U.S. security guarantee for Ukraine, a point Trump has consistently rejected, further complicating the situation. Trump made it apparent that Europe should lead during his first Cabinet meeting when he said, "I am not going to make security guarantees beyond very much." That is what we will have Europe do.
