Did Joe Biden Make a Mistake by Not Giving Himself a Pardon?

President Donald Trump recently attacked Joe Biden's decision to grant anticipatory pardons to a number of his family members and colleagues in the last days of his presidency in an interview with Sean Hannity of Fox News.
While Biden pardoned his siblings and their spouses, Trump pointed out that he did not pardon himself.
Hannity raised the topic of preemptive pardons during the discussion, reminding Trump that Biden had previously promised during his campaign that he would never use them.
As you may recall, Joe Biden told CNN's Jake Tapper that he was worried about allegations that President Trump was considering a number of preemptive pardons for his adult children, his attorney Rudy Giuliani, and even the prospect of pardoning himself.
In his first joint interview following his election victory, Biden stated, "It worries me in terms of what kind of precedent it establishes and how the rest of the world looks at us as a nation of laws and justice." "I will not dictate to them what they must and must not do," Biden declared.
"I will not be telling them to go pursue A, B, or C. It is the people's justice department, not mine, and that is not its responsibility. Therefore, the individuals I choose to lead that department will be capable of independently determining who is prosecuted and who is not.
In response, Trump said in the interview that he had been offered the chance to pardon himself and others but had turned it down. He also bemoaned his allies' struggles, citing people like Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon who had to deal with financial difficulties and legal issues.
He also regretted the difficulties his allies faced, naming Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro as examples of those who suffered legal problems and financial costs.
Hannity:
“Joe Biden ran and said he would never do preemptive pardons. It was an issue that came up when you were leaving your first time.”
Trump:
“He thought he heard that I was going to do it. I didn’t want to do it.I was given the option. They said, Sir, would you like to pardon everybody, including yourself? I said, I’m not going to pardon anybody. We didn’t do anything wrong.
And we had people that suffered. They’re incredible patriots. We had people that suffered.
You had Bannon put in jail. You had Peter Navarro put in jail. You had people that suffered.
This guy went around giving everybody pardons. And you know, the funny thing, maybe the sad thing, is he didn’t give himself a pardon. And if you look at it, it all had to do with him.”
