Congress Set to Vote on $1.5 Trilling Deal to Help Ukraine and European Allies
On Wednesday March 8, 2022, Congressional leaders are set to vote on a $13.6 billion bipartisan deal to help Ukraine and European allies. “Billions more was included in the deal to battle the pandemic as part of an overdue $1.5 trillion measure financing federal agencies for the rest of this year,” according to a Newsmax report.
According to the report, “Over $4 billion of the Ukraine aid was to help the country and Eastern European nations cope with the two million refugees who've already fled the fighting. Another $6.7 billion was for the deployment of U.S. troops and equipment to the region and to transfer American military items to Ukraine and U.S. allies, and there was economic aid and money to enforce economic sanctions against Russia as well.”
Meanwhile, 34% of U.S. small businesses are still closed due to COVID-19. Not to mention, the U.S. is currently facing its highest annual inflation rate since 1982. The 2,741-page plan was planned to go through the House on Wednesday and Senate by the week’s end. Lawmakers whipped the plan out in response to the urgency to help Ukraine before Russia’s military might make it too late to act.
The bill reportedly included victory for both Democrats and Republicans with Democrats getting $730 billion for domestic programs and Republicans $782 billion for defense. Earmarks in the bill included money for courthouses in Connecticut and Tennessee and repairs to a post office in West Virginia.
The question we must all ask is: When will the American people come first under this regime, and will this aid end up in the pockets of politicians at American taxpayer’s expense?
