President Trump’s Voice of Peace and Unity in Israel Speech
Today marks the beginning of President Trump’s two-day visit to Israel and the West Bank. The president started his speech in Israel on the important topic of defeating terrorism. Israel’s challenge of maintaining peace with the Palestinians, and Iran were topics that both President Trump and Israeli President Reuven Rivilin delivered joint remarks about before the press in Israel on May 22.
Once again, President Trump showed a strong stance on the issues that he spoke so passionately about during his campaign. Make no mistake, President Trump is moving forward vigorously with the agendas that he promised the American people during his campaign for President of the United States. Among those topics were security, peace, stability, and defeating terrorism by working together.
While briefly addressing Israeli and U.S. officials at the airport arrival ceremony, President Trump said “We have before us a rare opportunity to bring security and stability and peace to this region and to its people, defeating terrorism and creating a future of harmony, prosperity and peace.” President Trump concluded “But we can only get there working together. There is no other way.”
Showing strong support to President Trump’s visit, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted that he “shares the commitment to peace”. Prime Minister Netanyahu said “Israel’s hand is extended in peace to all our neighbors, including the Palestinians.” Further lending support to President Trump’s agenda, he said “The peace we seek is a genuine and durable one, in which the Israeli state is recognized, security remains in Israel’s hands, and the conflict ends once and for all.”
Marking yet another historical moment, once again, no other previous President of the United States of America has ever come to Israel this early in his tenure. President Obama didn’t make the trip until he was in his second term. Tensions are high between Israel and the Palestinians. President Trump must be commended for stepping in to be a voice of peace despite the fact that there were clashes in the West Bank, even as he arrived.
President Trump also became the first sitting President to visit the Western Wall in Jerusalem. This is the holiest site where Jews can pray. President Trump left a prayer note there in accordance with Jewish custom. For over 50 years this site, located in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, had not been recognized as part of Israel. Visiting this site was considered as an unwise political move. Yet, President Trump in true form stepped in to change all of that!
Seeking to disrupt President Trump’s visit, there were more than 1,000 Palestinians who marched to the Qalandiyay checkpoint from Ramallah. Some carried posters of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli prisons. However, Israeli soldiers dispersed the demonstration.
Our brave President Donald Trump is leading this country on a serious quest that truly has the opportunity to lead to world peace and prosperity on a level unlike any that the world has ever known. Let’s get behind him and support the challenges ahead while we pray for his continued success!
