REINCE PRIEBUS HINTED THAT THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ARE STILL CONSIDERING HOW TO MAKE IT EASIER TO SUE THE MEDIA

President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Reince Priebus, confirmed over the weekend that the current administration has considered and continues to consider making amendments to the libel law as a result of critical press coverage of President Donald J. Trump.

In a Sunday interview on ABC’s “This Week”, Priebus said, “I think it’s something that we’ve looked at. How that gets executed or whether that goes anywhere is a different story,”

“But when you have articles out there that have no basis or fact and we’re sitting here on 24/7 cable companies writing stories about constant contacts with Russia and all these other matters ” he continued.

When quizzed whether President Trump should consider suing The New York Times, a media outlet President Trump detests for publishing stories he doesn’t like, Reince Priebus replied, “I think that newspapers and news agencies need to be more responsible with how they report the news.”  Priebus also added that he has come across a number of published reports with “no basis or fact.”

President Trump’s disagreement with the media started a long time ago even before he was elected as the president of the United States of America.  During his campaign, he promised he was going to open up the libel laws.

During the 2015-2016 election Donald Trump had described the Media and the New York Times as “dishonest” and claimed they were losing money.  He envisaged they were going to have problems with him if he became the President of the United States of America.

In his words, “I’m going to open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money.  We’re going to open up those libel laws. So when The New York Times writes a hit piece which is a total disgrace or when the Washington Post, which is there for other reasons, writes a hit piece, we can sue them and win money instead of having no chance of winning because they’re totally protected.”
