Investigations revealed that the two fired Secret Service agents had actually been on the job for a little less than twelve months. A statement released by the Secret Service on Thursday reads, “The Secret Service review of the March 10 incident is ongoing. The Secret Service continues to take appropriate actions based upon findings of the mission assurance review. We do not comment on personnel actions. However, all Secret Service personnel are held to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct.”

The two security personnel failed to stop Tran who was carrying two cans of mace and a letter to President Donald J. Trump. He was however apprehended by another Secret Service officer (described as a member of the White House Uniformed Division) after he set off multiple alarm sensors. Jonathan Tran, from California, had been on the White House premises for more than 15 minutes before he was eventually captured.

While reacting to the incident, President Donald Trump – who was in the building at the time, praised the Secret Service for their effectiveness. He said, “Secret service did a fantastic job. It was a troubled person. It was very sad.”
